The Larry & Luella Shelton Scholarship Award

Larry & Luella Shelton Scholarship is a one-time $500 award created to uplift graduating high school seniors who are ready to use their education to spark real change in their communities. Presented by the Long Leg Family Foundation, this scholarship supports students in the Memphis, Shelby County, Tennessee area (and surrounding communities) who are pursuing post-secondary education during the 2026–2027 academic year.

This scholarship is designed for students who not only meet academic standards, a minimum 2.9 cumulative GPA and acceptance to an accredited post-secondary institution, but who also demonstrate a heart for service and a vision for impact. Applicants are required to submit a 1,200–1,500 word essay describing how their education and future career path will allow them to positively impact their community and change perspectives, along with proof of community service, transcripts, and college acceptance.

Applications are due by April 24, 2026, at 11:59 PM CST, and the recipient will be announced on May 7, 2026. The selected scholar will be chosen based on the strength of their essay, clarity of goals, alignment with community impact, and academic readiness. Funds may be used for tuition, books, housing, fees, and other educational expenses, and the recipient will also be invited to share a brief reflection after their first semester.

The Larry & Luella Shelton Scholarship honors the power of education to open doors, shift narratives, and build stronger communities. One student at a time.
